Original 1968 400 block is now 650HP and burns 116 octane fuel. Thanks to Standridge Motors in Bakersfield, Ca. for machine work 1982.
My love for GTO's began in 1973 when my buddy Joey got his 1965 GTO. It was bad! Green, 4 speed, 389HT, Cragers, sweet. In 1974 my friend Brian shows up with a 1969 GTO 4 speed and I told myself someday I will have a goat. I could only dream. In 1979 I found myself in the Mojave, a hot, dry and broke 20 year old staying with my uncle. I had a KZ 500, two stroke, three cylinder, the suicide bike. I met a girl (she is still my wife to this day and mother of my 3 great kids) anyway she tells me she cannot go out with me on the bike. Her mom says no way. OK then, I sell the bike & look for a car to buy. I find a 1968 GTO convertible 4 speed in the paper for 400.00 That can't be right. I call, yes that's correct. I go up to get the car and the owner tells me he changed his mind, no sale. I offer him 50.00 more, let him keep the battery and the car is mine. I'm thrilled! No top, faded yellow, one headlight, bald tires, I got a flat on the way back. Now here it is over 25 years later and I'm still building this car. Right now I am putting the interior in it. It's almost ready for the road. Well not the everyday road, my 69 GTO is for that, but that's another 520HP story.
